FAMILY ACHIEVEMENTS
James Thomas 1924 - 1997
Jim attended Canisius College before joining the Army Air Corp's Officers Candidate School where he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. Jim and Betty Ann Surra were married on May 17, 1947. Jim spend the WW II years at Anderson AFB on the island of Guam flying the B29 Super-fortress where he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant. Jim was on board one of the B29s circling over the Battleship Missouri when the Japanese surrendered.
After the war Jim served as the Flight Safety Officer at Lowry AFB in Colorado, Elmendorf AFB in Alaska and Lackland AFB in Texas, eventually achieving the rank of Major. During the Korean conflict Jim served as an advisor to the Republic Of Korea Air Force, returning to Lackland after the war. After his military retirement, Jim served as an accident investigator and was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Jim and Betty had been married 33 years when Betty was fatally injured in an auto accident. Jim and Betty raised a daughter Timi and have 2 grand children and 2 great grandsons. Jim retired in San Antonio TX.
Gerald Charles 1925 - 2007
Jerry enlisted in the Navy V-12 program and attended the University of South Carolina and the Univ. of California - Berkeley graduating with a degree in engineering, was commissioned as Lt. J.G in 1946 and received an MBA in 1948. Jerry served on active duty aboard ship in the pacific theatre including China, Japan, the Philippines and the Saudi Arabian peninsula.
At the end of his tour he joined Owens Corning Fiberglass in Toledo, Ohio where he was involved with the Apollo Aerospace Program that produced the astronauts' space suits and rocket nosecones. Jerry and Myra were married in 1949 and Jerry enjoyed an illustrious career of 38 years with OCF as a marketing executive in the Santa Clara California. Jerry and Myra raised five children, Colleen, Patrick, Richard, Jerry Jr. and John and have 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. They retired in Rockland, CA.
Robert Emmet 1927 - 2022
Bob received an appointment to the US Naval Academy at Annapolis and was a commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the USAF. Bob was enrolled in an advanced education program at the University of Illinois where he was awarded a Masters and Phd in electrical and computer engineering. Bob and Bette Earl Van Horn were married on April 1, 1950. Bob was then assigned to the Univ. of California Radiation Laboratory at Livermore where he joined a development team building a nuclear powered missile.
At the end of his tour, Bob Co-Founded Finnigan Corporation and there developed computerized gas chromatograph- mass spectrometer systems that eventually became the standard for identification of drugs and pollutants by EPA organizations worldwide. Bob was awarded the Winston Churchill Medal of Wisdom. Bob and Bette raised 7 children: Michael, Patrick, Joan, Shawn, Robert Jr, Thomas and Mathew, have 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. (So far). They retired in Los Altos, CA.
Sir Dennis Michael (1928 - 2020)
Denny joined the USAF as a non-commissioned officer serving in the Pacific Air Defense Command in Hawaii. Dennis and Barbara Ann Pfieffer were married on June 16, 1951.
After his tour he attended San Jose State University and received a degree in Business from Stanford University. He joined Stanford Research Institute where he directed SRI's International consulting program for 28 years. Denny was awarded the Royal Order of the North Star by the King of Sweden for his successes in the country's business development program and was inducted into SRI’s Hall of Fame. Denny and Barbara raised 9 children; Cecilia, Eileen, Dennis Jr, Kathleen, Peggy, Teresa Timothy, Kevin and Marie, have 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. (So Far) They retired in West Linn OR,
Kathleen Marcella Finnigan 1929 - 2013
Kathleen graduated from the University of Buffalo with a degree in Business. She was a career employee with Macy's Department Stores directing their Bridal Services program. Kathleen enjoyed buying and selling antique clocks, She retired in Rocklin, CA.
John Patrick 1931 - 2019
John joined the USAF as an enlisted man serving in Eastern Air Defense Command. He graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Business. John and Mary Lou Turtorro were married on April 23, 1955.
At the end of his tour John joined Lockheed's Sunnyvale advances systems development team establishing a national blood bank program that doubled blood collections and substantially reduced outdating. John also participated in Lockheed's pioneering development of automated hospital information systems. John and Mary Lou raised 3 children; Geri, Michael and Thomas and have 5 grandchildren (so far). They retired in Greenville SC
Paul Francis 1934 -
Paul graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Business Administration. He joined Sunsweet Growers where he installed IBM’s first business computer. Paul and Nancy Grace Larson were married in August 25, 1956. Paul served as Director of Information Systems for Sunsweet Growers Inc., Controller for Stanford Research Institute, a consultant with SRI and McKinsey and Company, President of Microform Medical Systems, founder and Chairman of Voicemail International, (Trademarked the word 'Voicemail"), President of the International Voicemail Association and Principal Partner of Finnigan USA. Paul is an instrument rated pilot with 1000 hours in high performance aircraft. Nancy served as President of the grammar school PTA. Paul and Nancy Grace raised 4 children, David, James, William and Suzanne, have 23 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren (so far). They retired in Eagle, ID.
